My Discovery of Music
Born in 1976 in Oklahoma City, my musical journey began when I was 12 years old. That was the year I stumbled upon Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe and Rikki Rockett of Poison. Their pounding drums and high-energy beats and showmanship, lit a fire inside me, and I knew I had to be a Drummer. I was hooked!
My love for music exploded from there. Throughout high school in Manteca, California, I threw myself into every musical opportunity I could find—marching band to jazz band, and thrash metal band Social Breakdown. Each experience fueled my passion and deepened my love for Drumming and performance.
My Music Journey
Determined to expand my skills, I went on to study under Joe Ragan at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. Later, I attended the Commercial Music Program at Labette Community College, where I also served as an adjunct drum instructor. Teaching others while continuing to develop my own playing was incredibly rewarding, and it reinforced my belief that anyone can learn drums with the right guidance and mindset.
Since 2000, I’ve taught private drum lessons across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado. Along the way, I’ve contributed my drumming, co-production, and songwriting talents to numerous bands and artists, including Dad’s Rehab’s self-titled album in 2012.
My musical tastes expanded from those early hair band influences to the raw power of Metallica and Pantera to the Seattle Grunge bands - Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. I also found inspiration in the technical mastery of Dream Theater and Tool. Drumming has been my creative outlet for over three decades, and it continues to be my greatest passion.
